SwitchBot has continued to roll out modular products that all interact and support each other, leading to a friendly-to-set-up (and manage) smart home ecosystem. With previous models supporting modern models and vice versa, it has created a sustainable solution for those wanting both options and long-term usability. Now, the company has released three new products that seem to have pushed things to the next level of accessibility and the ability to get your geek on at the same time.
The launch includes an upgraded version of the company’s smart lock, the new SwitchBot Lock Ultra ($139.99+, depending on solo or within a bundle). The previous Lock Pro had already touched on a number of things that improved on the first-generation product, including a faster response time and locking/unlocking action, as well as the shift toward AA’s or the option of a rechargeable battery (much better than the CR123A batteries of the first model).
Now, the new model dives into things further by offering a triple-power approach using a rechargeable battery, a backup battery, and a small “emergency” source that provides 5 emergency unlocks. Working to make sure that you always have a functioning lock, even as it is having trouble due to temperature conditions or while you are charging the main battery (so that the lock never experiences a downtime).
It is claiming to have a faster unlock speed yet again, with less noise to the action, and can now be applied to other forms of locks beyond the typical deadbolt, including Jimmy Proof locks and Mortise style. It offers faceplates that can be swapped out to match the color of your door more closely (although I think plain black will still interest most users), and it still offers all of the same great features the Pro (second-gen model) has to offer. Including the ability to autolock after a certain amount of time and unlock the lock as you approach using geo-fencing.
As for the new SwitchBot Keypad Vision ($99.99+, depending on solo or within a bundle), the company has expanded on the previous keypad that offered numeric entry, NFC, and biometric access, by adding yet one more feature that will tickle your inner geek. The new keypad is a little bulkier, but this is thanks to a new scanner built-in that offers 3D ficial recognition (aka, facial recognition). Allowing for one more way (and a more secure way) of unlocking your door using a hands-free approach beyond the geo-fencing options.
Then you also have the new SwitchBot Hub 3 ($119.99+, depending on solo or within a bundle), which takes the SwitchBot hub to the next level of usability by building a more interactive display and controls to help bring devices together. It acts as a bridge for SwitchBot devices and more, thanks to both IR and Matter integration. While also providing analytics about your environment, such as temperature, humidity, and more.
All of these devices can be found separately or as part of bundles/kits via SwitchBot’s website. Prices begin with $99.99 and work their way up depending on the device or if you buy into said bundles. Keeping the price of these devices within a competitive and reasonable range when compared with what’s out there. The lock still functions with some of the company’s other and older devices, including older hubs, keypads, and NFC accessories. Just keep in mind that if you use an older hub, you may lose certain functions (like Matter support, if you are using the first-generation hub model).
If we get our hands on the new generation devices, we will be sure to come back with a full review of what we think.
