New Delhi: A court sentenced two men to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and another to five years of RI for an attempted robbery in 2015, observing that the convicts did not have any fear of the law and should be dealt with an iron hand to set an example. Though nothing valuable was found, they targeted the victim’s office in a busy area in west Delhi around 7.30pm, it noted. The court of additional sessions judge Hem Raj was hearing the arguments on the quantum of sentence against Akash and Peter Joseph, who were convicted of the offences under IPC sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing or attempting a robbery) and 398 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with a deadly weapon). Another co-accused, Mohammed Yakub, was convicted under IPC Section 394. They attempted the robbery in Tilak Nagar. The court sentenced Akash and Joseph to rigorous imprisonment for seven years under IPC 398 while Yakub was awarded five years’ RI under Section 394.Not only did they try the robbery in a busy area, “they also used a pistol and a deadly weapon, i.e., a knife, which goes on to show their criminal mindset. Accordingly, it is the demand of justice that the convicts should be dealt with an iron hand to set an example for others”, the court said. The prosecution proved that Akash and Joseph had entered into the office of Nishant Saluja armed with a knife and a pistol, respectively, with masks on their faces while Yakub was standing outside, keeping a vigil, the judge noted.
