New Delhi: Two members of the Himanshu Bhau gang were apprehended after they were shot in the leg during an encounter with the Delhi Police Special Cell in Outer Delhi’s Narela area in the early hours of Saturday.According to police, the duo—identified as Bhumit Malik (21) and Mohit Vashisht (24)—were wanted in connection with the murder of a man in Ritoli, Rohtak, on June 1. The victim, police said, was allegedly killed on the orders of gangster Himanshu Bhau, as he was the paternal uncle of Ankit—the man who had earlier killed Bhau’s cousin Rohit alias Baje and Rohit’s uncle in Mar 2022.Acting on intelligence that the two suspects would be arriving in Narela armed with firearms, the Special Cell laid a trap. Around dawn on Saturday, the suspects were spotted on a motorcycle. When signalled to stop, they attempted to flee and opened fire on the police team. Officers returned fire in self-defence, during which both suspects sustained gunshot injuries to their legs. They were immediately apprehended and taken to a hospital for treatment. The motorcycle they were riding was found to have been stolen from Subhash Nagar in Mar 2025.During interrogation, Bhumit revealed that he became associated with the Bhau gang through a contact from Badwasni, Sonipat. He said a friend of his had a dispute in Mokhra and was planning to murder a rival. When they sought Bhau’s help, the gangster agreed—on the condition that they first kill Anil, a relative of Ankit, his enemy.Motivated by revenge, Bhumit and his associates allegedly carried out Anil’s murder in the early hours of June 1. Weapons used in the attack were reportedly provided by Bhau.Police said both accused have been involved in at least 13 previous criminal cases. The case is under further investigation.
