New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said her govt aimed to transform the capital into an “empowered” city, where public participation would be central to governance. The comments were made during a Jansunwai at her camp office on Raj Niwas Marg, where she met residents and took steps to resolve their grievances. Although Gupta held several such meetings with the public at her residence in Shalimar Bagh after assuming office, this was the first at Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan, her camp office at Civil Lines, with enhanced arrangements and improved facilities. From 8am to 10am, the chief minister met citizens at Jan Seva Sadan, where officers from around a dozen departments, including Delhi Jal Board, education, police, health and Municipal Corporation of Delhi, were present. Citizens submitted their complaints, requests and suggestions directly to Gupta and senior officials, with the chief minister issuing immediate instructions to officials to resolve each issue within a specified time frame and assured the public that every complaint would be taken seriously. Most grievances pertained to issues such as crime, drinking water, school admissions, health, roads and encroachment.Gupta said these public hearings were proof that people have faith in democracy and expect constructive changes from the govt. “Our govt considers the people’s pain as its own. Jan Seva Sadan will not only bring governance closer to citizens but will also reaffirm that this is a responsive, sensitive and people-centric govt. We are here not to rule, but to serve,” she said, adding that the govt’s goal was not just to administer but to build Delhi as a “sensitive, empowered, and just” city, where public participation in governance was fundamental. Gupta claimed that previous govts lacked such communication mechanisms, which often left people helpless in getting their problems resolved.
