At 19, Mike Satterlee has already learned one of the more unpredictable rules of modern entrepreneurship: a single social media post can change the scale of a business almost overnight. What began with a $500 3D printer in his parents’ basement has grown into a New York operation running 160 printers and producing thousands of drink accessories, with CruiseCup generating $808,000 in gross revenue in 2025, states an online report by Traders Union.
From a $500 printer to a business
According to CNBC report, Satterlee first encountered 3D printing during a high school design and production class. In September 2022, he used savings from birthdays, Christmas and earlier business ventures to buy his first printer for around $500. His first serious 3D-printing venture was Solefully, a business producing shoe charms for Crocs. Started in his parents’ basement in June 2023, it eventually generated about $250,000 in sales during 2024, giving the teenager enough traction to take the operation beyond the family home, the report adds.By November 2024, he was renting a 3,000-square-foot warehouse in Clifton Park, New York, for $3,600 a month. The space would eventually become the base for a much larger printing operation.
Finding a better product
As Satterlee experimented with new ideas, he noticed that products designed around everyday problems attracted more attention online. Universal car cupholder adapters, capable of holding everything from coffee cups to large reusable bottles, performed better on social media and offered stronger margins than the shoe charms, states the Traders Union report.That discovery eventually led to CruiseCup. In June 2025, Satterlee shut down Solefully and focused entirely on the new business, adds the report. And the turning point came two months later when he designed a hard-shell insulated cooler capable of holding two 12-ounce cans. Unlike conventional double-can holders, the design could be loaded from either the top or bottom, the report elaborates.
When social media changed everything
Satterlee promoted the new product through Instagram, where the design quickly gained attention. Orders surged into the hundreds in a single day, leaving his 60 printers facing a backlog that could have taken roughly six weeks to clear. Also, instead of turning customers away, Satterlee waited for the incoming revenue to finance additional equipment. CruiseCup generated about $100,000 in August alone, its strongest month at that point.The momentum continued and across its website and TikTok Shop, CruiseCup generated $808,000 in gross revenue during 2025, with a small additional amount coming from Amazon, Traders Union report adds.
Reinvesting instead of cashing out
Although the company is profitable, Satterlee is not treating the revenue as personal income. Living with his parents means he does not currently have rent expenses, allowing him to put most of the money back into the business. He typically takes between $500 and $1,500 a month for himself, while the remainder goes toward new printers, advertising and product development. The company is operated full-time by Satterlee and one other employee. The operation has now expanded to 160 printers, producing plastic products in New York. CruiseCup also sources stainless-steel versions from a manufacturer in China, the report adds.
Building beyond the viral moment
The challenge for Satterlee now is turning a successful product into a lasting brand. He has two patents pending for CruiseCup designs and plans to introduce UV printing, expand its drinkware range and strengthen the company’s marketing operation.
