For nearly a decade, Jim Carrey’s Hawaiian retreat provided him with something Hollywood rarely could — privacy, solitude and the calming presence of the Pacific Ocean. The property is located on just under an acre of prime beachfront land on Maui and is designed to blur the lines between indoor living and the tropical landscape outside. Now the actor looks ready to let go of the stunning estate. Carrey has already sold the property he listed in October 2026 for $35 million, another significant real estate move for the Hollywood star as he enters a new chapter of his personal life.
Terminates 10 years of ownership
As per Realtor report, Carrey purchased the oceanfront property in 2016 for $16.5 million, said the realtor. His current asking price is $35 million, more than double what he originally paid for it. The Realtor’s property records show that the home is in pending status, which means a buyer is in place, but the amount of the sale has not been released. The property sits on nearly an acre of beachfront land at Keawakapu Beach where South Kihei Road meets the Wailea resort area. The property has approximately 170 feet of ocean frontage, with a wide green lawn and tall coconut palms between the houses and the shore. The estate was designed by architecture firm Ike Kligerman Barkley, with the goal of weaving traditional Hawaiian influences into a sprawling contemporary retreat, states a report by James Edition. Architectural details include thatched roofing, Douglas fir framing, and woven bamboo finishes.
Two houses with a view of the Pacific
The property is 4,717 square feet and was built in 2002, and is spread out over two separate buildings. The main residence has the primary living areas and a main bedroom suite, while a second building provides independent accommodation for guests. The main house has three bedrooms in total across the accommodation of the estate and the guest structure has two further bedrooms with their own bathrooms. The property also has four and a half bathrooms. One of the characteristics is the great room with high ceilings and wooden trusses that create the airy atmosphere. Big openings connect the interiors to a covered stone lanai, allowing residents to flow easily between the inside and outside. The chef’s kitchen has two oversized islands, white cabinetry and premium appliances, according to Realtor. The master suite has another unique feature: a swinging bed and floor-to-ceiling windows, and its bathroom features a statement soaking tub and dual vanities.
A resort at home
The outdoor spaces are the estate’s biggest attractions. A freeform swimming pool snakes through natural rock formations in between the two buildings. The design features a hidden grotto, a water slide, a shallow lounging ledge and an elevated spa.According to The James Edition, one of the property’s most valuable features is its generous beachfront setting. Its placement allows both buildings to have ocean views and still have a good stretch of landscaped grounds between the residences and the sand. The listing is with Hawaii Life’s Blake Hill and the estate is being sold fully furnished and in excellent condition. “It is an unusual offering in the luxury property market of Maui with its combination of architectural design, privacy and direct beach access.”
A more quiet life away from Hollywood
Carrey’s relationship with Maui reflects a broader shift in his lifestyle over the past decade. The actor gradually slipped from the limelight into a more private existence after becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable comedy stars in 1994 with films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber.James Edition notes that his island routine has mostly involved reading, writing, walking, painting and sketching. Carrey has also expressed his desire to retire from acting and lead a quieter life away from the demands of the entertainment industry. His private life, too, has entered a new phase. The actor recently wed his longtime love, Min Ah, in an intimate Los Angeles ceremony, Realtor reports. The couple have kept their relationship largely private, making the development a major milestone.
Another major real estate exit
Carrey’s listing in Maui comes after he sold his longtime estate in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The two-acre property was purchased in 1994 for $3.8 million and was first listed in February 2023 for $28.9 million.According to Realtor, however, it was difficult to find a buyer. After several price cuts, the home finally sold in 2024 for $17 million,Carrey now has a buyer for his Hawaiian retreat and appears to be letting go of another major property. It’s not clear whether he plans to have a home elsewhere in Hawaii or to establish his business in California. Its new owner has a new chapter ahead for the Maui estate, though the final sale price has not been disclosed.Images Courtesy: Instagram/jimcarrey and Realtor
